Chapter 49 Adjusting Deployment
Chapter 49 Adjusting Deployment
at the same time.
With the enemy commander being shot in the head by Lu Ye, and the successive annihilation of the 2nd Platoon of B Company B in Kalinovka and the rapid reaction mobile platoon, the entire Ukrainian army camp fell into panic and chaos.
The enemy's communication channels were filled with a constant stream of nonsensical calls.
"Command center! Command center receives your message, please respond!"
"The control center has been attacked by a sniper! The commander has been killed!"
"Who's in command?! We need reinforcements on the east side!"
"There are enemies on the south side too! They have heavy firepower!"
Yuri showed no sign of letting up: "Hurry up and take advantage of their disarray to set up the defensive line as completely as possible!"
The troops stationed at Kalinovka were, after all, regular troops.
This chaotic disorder did not last long.
About three minutes later, a new, extremely authoritative voice suddenly appeared in the enemy's communication system.
"Shut up, all of you!"
"I am the company commander of B Company! From this moment forward, I assume supreme command of Kalinovka! Anyone who disobeys orders will be executed on the spot!"
The roar instantly silenced the panic and screams in the channel.
"Now, each defensive line must immediately report to me the casualties and the current situation!" The B Company commander spoke very quickly.
"Report from the eastern flank! We have been hit by an unidentified explosion; all mortar and missile positions have been destroyed! Casualties are heavy; approximately forty men remain!"
"Report from the northern defense line! The machine gun positions in the factory are basically intact, have not been attacked, and are at full strength, approximately sixty men!"
"Report from the south ammunition depot! Half of our manpower was just transferred to support the hangar; there are currently twenty men on duty and on guard!"
"South patrol report! We've been massacred! Less than ten men remain! The rapid reaction platoon supporting the hangar and the 2nd platoon reinforcements have also lost contact!"
The company commander of B Company, listening to the report, gritted his teeth and pressed, "Where exactly is the enemy?! How many are there?"
"Sir, we're on patrol. During the firefight, we saw four enemy soldiers rush into the south railcar area! Add to that the sniper on the west tower and the heavy machine gunner providing cover on the south... there are only six enemies in total!"
"Six people? Six people and they've completely disrupted our defenses?"
"Listen! The rapid reaction force from Red City base is on its way at full speed and is expected to arrive in ten minutes!"
"If we can just hold out for these ten minutes, those six rats are doomed!"
"Attention to the eastern flank! The recent explosion and the red signal flare suggest that a large Russian force may launch an attack at any moment. Twenty men from the 1st Platoon of Company B, plus ten from the ammunition depot, are to immediately reinforce the eastern flank!"
"The remaining personnel of the 1st Platoon of Company B, plus the remaining personnel of the Mobile Platoon, will form a 50-man assault team!"
"Join up with the remaining members of the southern patrol! Divide into three groups and launch a full-scale attack on the freight car area from the front, east, and west!"
"Within ten minutes, at all costs, we must annihilate all the enemy forces on the southern flank!"
-----------------
The enemy commander's instructions were relayed word for word to the six members of the Black Scythe Squad.
Yuri pulled the bolt of his AK-12, glanced at his teammates around him, and a smile appeared on his lips.
"Brothers, we need to prepare for the worst! That idiot Wolf said it'll be another fifteen minutes before we can get into the battlefield!"
Yuri yanked the visor off his tactical helmet.
"This means we have to hold out in this freight car area, which is about 400 meters long and 45 meters wide, for twenty minutes!"
"Roman! Are the bombs and mines installed?"
"Alright, boss!" Roman crawled out from under the first row of carriages!
Lu Ye followed closely behind, sliding down from the top of the carriage and entering the first sniper position!
Yuri surveyed the room and said in a deep voice, "Everyone, prepare for engagement!"
After receiving Yuri's orders, the six members of the Black Scythe Squad were already in position in the south freight car area, as assigned.
Ruslan's PKP general-purpose machine gun is pointed directly at the gravel plaza in front of him, which is the firepower center of the entire defense system.
Lu Ye lay prone on a flatbed carriage about forty meters to Ruslan's left front, using large wooden crates and camouflage netting to create the first sniper position. The position offered a wide field of vision and allowed him to provide support and cover for Ruslan at any time.
Yuri and Eugene concealed themselves in a blind spot on the west edge of the carriage;
Roman then placed several tripwires in the gap on the east side.
Artyom, carrying an AK-105 short assault rifle, stood ready near the east side of the carriage.
While the others went to their defensive positions, Lu Ye was already observing the surrounding situation from his own sniper position.
As everyone held their breath, Lu Ye spoke in a low voice:
"Boss, something's up."
"Speak," Yuri said without uttering a single unnecessary word.
"At the one o'clock position, on the edge of the gravel plaza, I saw several heat sources approaching us using abandoned cement blocks. They were moving very quietly and in a very scattered formation."
Lu Ye stared at the dual-mode scope, his brows furrowing slightly. "But something feels off. It's too quiet in the headphones."
"Quiet?" Artyom asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Yes, apart from the eastern and northern defense lines still reporting their deployment to the command center, this fifty-man assault team advancing towards us hasn't exchanged a single tactical message on the communication channel." Lu Ye spoke very quickly.
Yuri immediately realized what was happening and turned to Eugene: "They switched channels?"
Eugene's fingers tapped rapidly on the tactical tablet, then he looked up and affirmed, "That's right, boss. This commando unit is using the new encrypted frequency band."
"We can no longer hear their tactical orders on the command channel we just hijacked. That B Company commander is something else; he's trying to prevent us from eavesdropping!"
"Cutting off the wiretapping won't change the fact that they're going to their deaths," Yuri scoffed.
"Eugene, immediately bring over the drone that's been hovering on the west side! Monitor their formation and movements in real time!"
"Received! The drone is entering the airspace above the battlefield." Eugene skillfully operated the terminal.
Lu Ye's gun remained locked on the few heat sources cautiously advancing in front of him, and he continued to report to his superior:
"Boss, they don't seem to be planning a frontal assault. The gravel plaza directly in front of us is too open, with very little cover. Only a few abandoned buildings at the edge of the plaza can be used as springboards."
"A direct assault on Ruslan's machine gun positions would be suicide; I suspect they'll commit their main force to the flanks."
Just then, Eugene, staring at the tactical tablet screen, suddenly reminded him:
"Boss! The drone's view shows two more BTR-80 wheeled armored vehicles approaching from the ammunition depot on the northwest side! They're heading towards our main battlefield!"
Yuri glanced at the screen and immediately made a tactical decision:
"The gaps between the cargo wagons on the south side are too narrow; armored vehicles simply cannot get in."
"We predict that the enemy commander intends to use armored vehicles and a portion of infantry to tie down our firepower from the front."
"If our frontal firepower is insufficient, the armored vehicles will advance. If our frontal firepower is strong, their main assault force will take the opportunity to flank us from the east and west!"
Yuri quickly readjusted his deployment:
"Tactical adjustments! Our defensive line stretches 400 meters east to west; six men simply cannot hold it completely. The 200 meters on the east side and the 100 meters on the west side will serve as buffer zones to lure the enemy in!"
"If the enemy launches a strong attack from both flanks, don't fight to the death! Fight and retreat simultaneously! Set traps to let them in!"
"However! During the retreat, we must deplete their manpower to the greatest extent possible!"
"Artyom!" Yuri continued, "You immediately move to the east to support Roman. The eastern front is the longest, and the enemy's main force is very likely to break through from there. You and Roman will form overlapping cover; don't let them easily get in!"
"Understood! I'm already heading east!" Artyom's voice rang out in the channel.
