Picking Up Attributes In Martial World

Chapter 200: Welcome, Son-in-law

Chapter 200: Welcome, Son-in-law

Everfrost City was bigger than Ye Jun expected. After he entered the city, he could see the outline of the vast Frostwall in the distance as it loomed over the city like a bastion. But even with his enhanced eyesight, he couldn’t see it clearly.

If he had to guess, the city stretched across hundreds of kilometres, vast enough to be mistaken for a small nation. Song Liangxue did say that the city housed more than eighty million people and that was a lot considering the environmental issues here.

Most people liked to settle down south with its warm climate and fertile lands. Even many people of the North travelled there to settle, though many of them stopped near the Black Wind Wildlands where the climate was much warmer but was still a part of the North.

And it was beautiful.

Inside the dome, the frigid winds of the northern wastes were kept at bay. The atmosphere was noticeably warmer and serene. Countless snowflakes drifted from the pale sky, cloaking the city in a pristine blanket of white.

As they approached the majestic Song Clan Ancestral Palace, Ye Jun finally saw how one of the Seven Great Clans of the Empire lived, the sole rulers of the North.

Nestled against the highest peak of Everfrost like a massive crown of ice and jade, the ancestral palace of the Song Clan rose into the heavens, a breathtaking marvel of cultivation architecture that bridged the gap between mortal engineering and immortal design.

Its colossal walls were carved entirely from pristine white spirit-marble, seamlessly fused with veins of deep blue glaciated crystal that pulsed with a slow, rhythmic light from embedded high-tier defensive arrays.

Towering spires pierced the pale winter sky like frozen spears, their sharp tips catching the weak northern sunlight to cast brilliant, multi-colored prisms across the sweeping outer courtyards.

Massive roofs layered with translucent jade tiles mimicked the undulating form of a sleeping frost dragon, while grand staircases flanked by lifelike ice sculptures of mythical beasts ascended toward the grand entrance halls.

Every pillar and archway was deeply etched with shimmering silver runes that not only defied the ravages of time but actively filtered the biting gales into a serene, refreshing mist, establishing the palace as the absolute, undisputed epicenter of power and majesty in the northern domain.

Everything was visible to them as the palace’s giant gates were wide open, letting the world witness its majesty. All to welcome the new addition to their family.

More than a hundred people had already gathered before it, carrying swords with them. Their attire was similar to that of other northerners, but with the Clan’s emblem embedded on their backs.

Even from a distance, Ye Jun could sense their terrifying cultivation bases. Aside from the kids, not a single one of them was below the Origin Realm. The highest one was actually...

’Ruler Realm...’ he thought solemnly.

He had never met a Ruler Realm powerhouse himself, but he had read things about them. One such thing was their passive manipulation of the world around them. Just by existing, they bent the world to their whims. And he sensed that clearly after spreading his Soul Sense.

’Crazy! There are multiple Sky Realm powerhouses too.’

"They’re from the Branch Clans," Song Liangxue said, pulling him along. "Now, just enjoy the hospitality."

"What? They’re going to challenge me to prove I deserve you?" Ye Jun chuckled, remembering their swords.

"They might do that," she smiled mischievously. "Just kidding. They don’t have any say in this and they’ve already heard about your achievements, so they’re more curious to meet you."

"Let’s just hope you’re right."

The Rhyshadiums finally stopped, signalling the end of their long journey. Ye Jun took a deep breath and glanced at Meihui.

"You’ll be fine, right?"

"Stop projecting your nervousness onto me," Meihui opened her hand fan and said. "I’m the arrogant Young Master Rong, remember?"

He was speechless.

Song Liangxue took his hand and smiled. "Let’s go. I’m excited to finally introduce you to my family. Don’t be so nervous, they aren’t some demons."

’Yeah, right.’

Song Ying opened the carriage door as they stepped outside hand in hand. Ye Jun held her hand confidently, having decided to face everything boldly. There was no point in thinking otherwise.

As he turned to face the Song Clan members, they all unsheathed their swords and pushed them deep into the snow in harmony. Then, they all knelt before their swords and bowed their heads.

"Welcome home, Young Miss! Welcome to the North, Lord Son-in-law!"

The collective roar of more than a hundred high-tier cultivators rippled through the pristine outer courtyard, the sheer force of their synchronized Qi momentarily scattering the drifting snowflakes into a wide, empty circle around the carriage.

Ye Jun kept his expression perfectly steady as he walked forward hand in hand with Song Liangxue. Behind them, Meihui intentionally slowed her steps, maintaining a respectful distance.

’This is their stage,’ her quiet retreat seemed to say, allowing the couple to command the absolute focus of the gathering.

Song Liangxue’s cold, imperial demeanor melted instantly. A radiant, genuine smile broke across her face, a warmth she rarely displayed to outsiders.

"Rise, uncles and brothers," she called out, her voice clear and carrying effortlessly across the spirit-marble plaza. "There is no need for such grand formalities outside the ancestral halls."

Ye Jun offered a respectful, measured nod to the kneeling crowd. As the members of the Song Clan retrieved their swords from the deep snow and straightened their postures, their gazes naturally locked onto him.

They were openly observing him, their eyes laced with genuine curiosity. But Ye Jun stood tall, his broad, muscular frame effortlessly matching the imposing, rugged stature the northern people were famous for.

The intense baptism of the Nine Purple Tribulations had refined his features, leaving behind a subtle, sharp air of absolute confidence that immediately commanded respect.

’Not bad,’ he analyzed their shifting micro-expressions with silent efficiency. ’No hidden malice, no cheap sneers. They’re genuinely just measuring me.’

Before the crowd could mingle, the space around the grand staircase subtly warped. The gray-haired, burly powerhouse Ye Jun had noticed earlier stepped forward.

His sheer presence passively bent the local atmospheric temperature, a definitive trait of a Ruler Realm powerhouse. Yet, as he closed the distance, he simply smiled and offered a firm, respectful bow.

"Young Miss, your safe return is the greatest blessing for the North," the man said, his deep voice carrying the heavy resonance of a mountain gale.

He then turned his focus to Ye Jun, his eyes gleaming with approval.

"And you must be Ye Jun. I am Song Chenfeng, the Grand Elder of the Song Clan. My duty is to remain here within the capital to safeguard the ancestral foundations while the other core members are either stationed across our vast northern borders or buried deep in seclusion."

He chuckled softly, gesturing to the crowd behind him.

"Even many of the branch leaders you see today were in the middle of breaking through their minor bottlenecks, but the moment the news of the Purple Tribulation reached us, they smashed through their seclusion gates just to welcome the man who achieved the impossible."

"Senior Song is too kind. I merely did what was necessary to survive," Ye Jun replied, his tone polite but casual, entirely unawed by the man’s terrifying cultivation base.

Before Grand Elder Song Chenfeng could respond, the atmospheric temperature completely flipped. The gentle chill within the Frostward Dome suddenly turned pleasantly warm, as if a quiet hearth had been lit in the middle of the snowfield.

One of the armored guards who had traveled with the entourage from the very beginning stepped forward, bypassing the front line. With a smooth, graceful motion, she unlatched her heavy frost-steel helmet and pulled it away, letting a cascade of rich, dark hair fall over her shoulders.

"Greetings, Matriarch!"

The hundred-plus clan members instantly dropped their heads, their voices filled with a profound, unshakeable reverence that easily eclipsed their previous greeting.

Ye Jun’s eyes blinked in sudden surprise.

Standing before him was a breathtakingly beautiful woman who possessed a deadly, mature charm. Her pale skin stood in sharp contrast to her dark, elegant robes and subtle makeup, a combination that could easily capture the heart of any man.

’Wait, she was the guard traveling with us the entire time?’ Ye Jun froze in surprise. ’The sole ruler of the North was acting as our coachman?’

"Mother," Song Liangxue spoke up, a helpless but affectionate smile tugging at her lips.

She leaned closer to Ye Jun and whispered, "She insisted on traveling in disguise for our protection. She was also the one who secretly suppressed the hidden variables when you faced the anomalies back at the Heaven Opening Chasm."

To Ye Jun’s absolute bewilderment, the legendary, terrifying Matriarch of the Song Clan didn’t maintain a majestic, cold front at all. The moment her gaze landed on him, her dark eyes lit up with brilliant warmth.

"Oh, look at you! You’re even more handsome than the portraits Liangxue sent me!" she exclaimed, her voice sweet and entirely devoid of any matriarchal stiffness.

Unlike the rest of the Song Clan, who commanded the absolute laws of ice and frost, her affinity belonged to a vibrant, comforting flame. It was the very source of her supreme title across the Empire:

The Heaven’s Last Ember.

Before Ye Jun could even utter a formal greeting, the Matriarch closed the distance in a blur of motion and enveloped him in a tight, incredibly warm hug.

"Welcome to the family, Ye Jun," she laughed softly, pulling back to beam at him with a wide, radiant smile. "I’ve been waiting to finally meet the boy who turned my daughter into a proper, smitten young lady."
