Chapter 93 Suspected of being caught in a crisis while searching for a target, war!
"Hold on tight! Stick close to the horse!"
The two immediately curled up, pressing their backs tightly against the horse's warm belly, using their body heat and the horse's massive body to ward off the cold and fear.
"Hurricane" and "Wilderness" also instinctively shrank back, squeezing into the gap between the two's legs.
"Whoosh—whoosh—BOOM!!!"
The gale, like a maddened beast, roared deafeningly over the mountain ridge overhead.
The snow was wildly swirled up, turning into countless ice blades that lashed against the tent.
Tom and "Snow Wolf" pressed their bodies firmly against the corners of the tent. Even through the thick canvas and sleeping bags, they could clearly feel the terrifying force that threatened to lift them and the tent together and tear them apart!
Each gust of wind caused the snow beneath them to tremble slightly, as if the small shelter would be completely swallowed up at any moment.
Time struggled to pass amidst the howling wind.
Tom fought with all his might against the force that threatened to tear the shelter apart; every second felt incredibly long.
After an unknown amount of time, the suffocating roar gradually subsided until it disappeared completely.
Tom let out a heavy breath, only then realizing that he felt as if he were carrying a thousand-pound weight on his body.
That was thick snow that had accumulated on the tents due to the strong winds.
"Snow Wolf" moved swiftly, suddenly lifting a corner of the tent and darting out like a mole breaking through the ground.
Tom followed closely behind, crawling out on his hands and feet.
Before me was still that boundless white snowfield. After being battered by the fierce wind, the snow had become even deeper and softer, and every step felt like stepping into a bottomless pit.
Tom's heart sank, but his gaze still habitually swept slowly around, trying to find something unusual in the blinding white.
Got nothing.
"We can't leave for now; we have to wait until the snow is compacted further."
"Snow Wolf's" voice carried a hint of weariness.
He quickly gathered everyone and found a relatively sheltered slope nearby to set up camp again.
Inside the tent, the campfire was reignited.
Tom rubbed his frozen hands and asked casually, "Young man, why did you have to come out in this awful weather?"
Snow Wolf was silent for a moment, then sighed: "Several of the tribe's bison have frozen to death. He came out looking for prey."
This answer surprised Tom quite a bit.
Along the way, he had personally witnessed the various "black technologies" the Klaus tribe used to cope with the cold winter, so their reserves should be sufficient.
How could a bison freeze to death?
"This winter has been strange," Snow Wolf said, poking at the fire, his voice low. "The temperature has been fluctuating wildly. The time it dropped the fastest, we didn't have time to drive all the bison into the sheltered depths of the valley." He paused, "and the outermost few froze to death."
Tom's heart skipped a beat.
He had personally experienced that sudden, bitterly cold blizzard that could seal the door of a wooden cabin.
Unexpectedly, the shaman's beloved apprentice had disappeared while searching for food supplies for the tribe.
But Tom had a vague feeling that something was off.
Would a disciple highly regarded by a shaman really need to go out hunting alone in extreme weather, when a blizzard has just passed and the temperature has plummeted to freezing?
Are there no more experienced hunters in the tribe?
This question weighed on Tom's mind until the snow was frozen solid again by the cold wind, allowing the team to continue their journey.
The strong winds swept away too many traces.
The world after the snow was blindingly pure, but it also ruthlessly erased the last clues that the young man might have left behind, making the search increasingly difficult.
Suddenly, "Hurricane," which had been scouting ahead, stopped at the edge of a steep snow slope, barking urgently and loudly at the snow below, its claws scratching at the snow impatiently!
"There's something down there!" Tom's heart jumped.
"Snow Wolf" suddenly turned around, his sharp gaze sweeping over the two fiercest tribal warriors behind him.
Without a word, the two immediately unarmed themselves, picked up long poles, and tied the sturdy ropes securely around their waists.
They exchanged a glance, nodded, and then carefully slid down the steep slope, one step at a time, towards the unknown land.
At the top of the hill, "Snow Wolf" and Tom held their breath, their eyes fixed on the two figures slowly descending, their knuckles white from gripping the rope.
Time seemed to stand still.
Finally, a short and loud shout came from the bottom of the slope!
A glint flashed in the eyes of "Snow Wolf," and without hesitation, it grabbed another rope and nimbly slid down the slope.
Without hesitation, Tom followed immediately, his figure quickly disappearing at the edge of the steep slope.
"It was attacked by a wild animal and accidentally fell!" Tom concluded decisively as he examined the black horse's carcass dug out of the snowdrift.
"Perhaps it died before it fell!" The man called "Snow Wolf" stared intently at the horse's wounds for a long time before uttering two words: "Black Bear!"
Tom remained calm, but the two tribal warriors accompanying him stared at the gruesome wound with expressions of surprise and doubt.
"Search!" At "Snow Wolf's" command, the three immediately began searching through the snow.
Tom's heart sank. Was the gold mine clue he had just gotten his hands on just going to slip away like that?
His sharp eyes scanned the surroundings; there were no corpses!
Could it be that the person was attacked by a black bear and then escaped?
Their gaze immediately turned to the vast snow-capped mountains.
Soon, a fresh mark on a broken tree trunk caught Tom's attention.
He strode forward.
His gaze swept across the surrounding snow like a comb, and finally, a new clue emerged!
"Look over there!" Tom suddenly pointed into the distance.
Everyone looked in the direction he pointed and saw a sharp arrow deeply embedded in the tree trunk.
"Snow Wolf" strode forward, pulled out the arrow, and his eyes sharpened instantly: "It belongs to our tribe!"
"He's still alive!" The flame of hope was rekindled.
"Keep searching!" the snow wolf growled.
Tom turned away alone and walked into the darker depths of the mountains.
Soon, the outline of a cave appeared at the edge of the field of vision.
Upon seeing the scene before the cave, even Tom couldn't help but gasp!
He immediately turned back and summoned the "Snow Wolf".
The sight before him also made this valiant warrior's pupils shrink!
At the cave entrance, a black bear of unusually large size, half of its body covered in eerie white fur, was pacing back and forth anxiously, letting out bursts of ferocious roars towards the cave.
Why is it blocking the entrance and acting crazy?
Tom whispered, his eyes already catching the faint light and shadowy figures moving inside the cave.
"Look! There's smoke!" Snow Wolf's eyes narrowed.
"There are people inside!" The group's spirits lifted.
Tom breathed a sigh of relief, hoping that what was hidden in the cave was the target they had been searching for.
"Now, what do we do..." Tom had barely begun to speak when a sudden change occurred!
The two fierce Klaus warriors beside him let out a low roar, picked up their heavy axes, and charged straight at the white-haired giant bear like arrows released from a bow!
Tom was instantly stunned. This...this is it? They didn't even give us a tactical explanation?
He subconsciously looked at the "experienced" "Snow Wolf" beside him, hoping that he could stop this reckless act.
Who knew!
"Awooo—!" A deafening battle howl tore through the snowfield. The "Snow Wolf" with bloodshot eyes swung its giant axe in a wide arc and charged out with even more ferocity!
In a flash, an idea exploded in Tom's mind:
These Native Americans fight... damn recklessly! They're really something else!
